What is worm farming?

A worm farm is about looking after worms.

You feed them scraps of food and the worms turn it into rich soil. If you feed them well every day they will start laying eggs. Then there will be more worms.

The worm's nature is to recycle plant and  other animal material and this enriches the earth and makes new soil. Worms swallow scraps and it comes out the other end as  compost. Worms help make dead plants turn into compost by eating it. Worms go through the soil and turn it over to make it perfect.

P.N.S worm farming

Every morning , the Papakura Normal School worm bin monitors put out a white bucket in the staff room, juniors, middle school and seniors with a recycling bin. At morning tea and lunchtime, children put their food scraps into the white bucket. After lunch the worm bin monitors collect the white bucket and recycling bins and take them to the worm bins in Papakura Normal Primary School 'new garden area.

Then the monitors take the white buckets and put them down by the gate.

After that, one of the worm bin monitors turn on the hose and put water into the buckets. Then two of the worm bin monitors put the food scraps in to the worm farm. When they  are finished, they stack the buckets and take the staffroom worm bins back to the staff room.
