Going to Camp
Monday morning - nervous and eager to get to school. Mum drops me off at the front gate. I only have 75 metres to carry my bags – hmmm… to the hall. It is a difficult job carrying them as they are very heavy!!
Finally! We’re in our lines ready to go. Mrs. Davis calls out our names while Mr Hodge checks the trailer is packed. He needs to make sure that the trailer is safe and the luggage is packed properly. I wait impatiently for my name to be called so we can be off.
At long last I hear my name being called. Raymond and I are glad that we aren’t the last to leave the school hall. On our way to Port Waikato we stop at the bank to bank some money for Mrs. Davis. I am dancing in the bank, doing pin drops and rejecting. The bank clerk smiles at what I am doing and so does Raymond. I am just feeling excited about going camping. I can’t wait to get there.
We think we are lost. Luckily Whaea Moana has a map which she pulls out. We are going the right way, thank goodness. Whaea Moana also pulls out some Kit Kats and gives us one each. They taste magnificent and really tickle my taste buds. My stomach is satisfied.
Finally we arrive at Port Waikato. The views on the way down are beautiful. The camp itself is surrounded by bush. What a place! The smell of nature is pleasant. Raymond and I run with our bags to get the best beds in the dorm. My bag doesn’t feel so heavy now.
