School Action Plan
Stage 1 – Plan For It (White / Yellow)
- Regular discussion with students at Assembly / Classroom with regard to hygiene
- Hand washing instructions displayed by all hand basins
- Posters displayed in classrooms lifting influenza prevention awareness
- Basic Supply of medical needs maintained in the sickbay
- All staff receive an up to date staff phone list in week 1 of each term
- Staff made aware of Health and Safety Guidelines Folder – including the Pandemic Guidelines each term.
- An emergency contacts list of social support agencies to be maintained by the Office.
Stage 1 – Standby (Yellow)
- Newsletter sent home upgrading profile and awareness. Full update of emergency contacts details.
- Staff meeting held with all staff to discuss outline precautionary actions to minimise risk exposure
- Pandemic Management Group established to manage RED alert.
- Action plan for cleaning
- Procedures for advising of school closure
- Systems to cater for off site teaching in event of school closure
- Designation of responsibilities / liaison with outside support organisations
- Advice to teachers as to own responsibilities re attendance / absence
- Teachers to manage hand washing and other precautionary behaviours that may reduce the risk of exposure.
- School hygiene group established to ensure hygiene programme is rigorously followed through.
- Teachers / Parents / Students educated as to symptoms of influenza and prevention measures.
- Cleaning Company advised and extra disinfection of high risk areas started.
- Stock take of medical supplies made – extra supplies ordered
Stage 2 – Activation (Red)
- Pandemic Sick Area designated and set up to deal with possible infected students.
- Staff designated to manage possible infected students. Barriers to avoid cross infection instituted.
- Social distancing measures introduced.
- Letter sent home to all families - advising of increased level and the need to report / keep home any student displaying symptoms.
- 'Influenza Staff Notice 1' displayed in all staff areas and at the entrance to all buildings.
- 'Influenza Student Notice 2' displayed in all classrooms and discussed with students. Class monitors (where appropriate appointed).
- Pandemic Management Group procedures at Yellow Alert instituted.
- 'Suspected Influenza Notification Form' and 'Contact List' to be completed for all possible cases of infection.
It is recognised that it is difficult to plan for every eventuality – it is important that the Pandemic Management Group meet regularly to address matters that arise in an effective and appropriate way.
