Prospectus Introduction
Dear Parents,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to welcome you and
your child to Papakura Normal School. I'm sure you will find our
school community warm, supportive and friendly.
This prospectus has been designed to give you an idea of what Papakura Normal School is like. If you are considering a number of options for your child's schooling, I hope this will help you decide whether this Primary School will meet your particular needs.
As you will note by the school name, we are a "Normal School". This means that the school has an association with the Auckland College of Education (ACE) and is used for the practical education of trainee teachers. This relationship with ACE has a very positive influence on our school. Our teachers need to be (and are!) the best available, thus making standards very high within the school. The children benefit by frequently having more than one "teacher" in the classroom and also benefit by having different teaching styles. Our latest Education Review Office Report was very favourable and is available for parents to read.
We have an active and enthusiastic Parent Teacher Group (PTG). This important group meets on the first Tuesday of each month in the staffroom. The PTG fund raises for extra equipment and supports the school in many important ways. Two very visible examples of their efforts are our shade area and the adventure playground. We encourage parents and caregivers to involve themselves as members of the PTG, as part of the home/school partnership.
The Board of Trustees operates an open door policy in regard to communicating with the community. Any parent who wishes to make representation to the Board may do so at any time. The Board meets on the second Thursday of each moth in the Boardroom at 7.00p.m. Parents/Caregivers are welcome to attend these meetings.
