The Appleyard
Mr Paul Appleyard was the school gardener for over 12 years at Papakura Normal School. He was responsible for the establishment and maintaining of the numerous rose beds around the school. Sadly, Paul passed away in 2009 after a short illness with cancer.
In Paul's memory the 'Appleyard' was established. Prior to his passing Paul selected four different apple trees for planting and selected one rose for the garden. It was originally planned to plant a rose garden in Paul's memory; however, when this was suggested to Paul he quickly advised us that he really didn't like roses that much - he did compromise and agreed to one rose being planted!
